SOAP – 3/15/14

I went off on my own this morning since Intentionally Focused is done and Proverbs31 doesn’t send out the devotional on the weekends.  Biblegate’s verse of the Day was PERFECT!  I started reading Lord, I Want to Know You by Kay Arthur.  The first chapter spoke about power in His name.  🙂

Today’s SOAP:

then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is

“ ‘the stone you builders rejected,     which has become the cornerstone.’

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

.~ 2 Cor. 7:1

In Biblical times a person’s name often carried with it their personality or qualities they possessed.  SO a name WAS the person.  Jesus means savior and Christ in Hebrew means Messiah in Hebrew and translated from Greek means anointed.  Anointing was a practice done by shepherds.  They would pour oil on a sheep’s head to protect it from lice and other insects to keep them from sickness or death.  Christ is symbolic of blessing, protecting, and empowering.

I call on the name of Jesus a LOT!  It’s been a recent habit that I’ve developed whenever things start to go astray, something wonderful happens or just because.  I can feel the power of His name.  I can feel His name saving, blessing, protecting, and empowering me.  I’ve called out a lot during January and February when I was empowered to get our finances under control.  I had to catch up on several months of the checkbook, start keeping track of our cashflow, and create a budget for February.  I needed saving and blessing because on paper things shouldn’t have worked out.  Guess what?  They did!  He has provided for us and our finances are working smoothly.  They aren’t perfect, but He has provided a path that I can see light shining through.  I’m so thankful and don’t want anything bad to happen so now I call on His name for protecting the blessing He has given us.  I can’t control all the stuff that life throws at us, but He can.  The name of Jesus Christ has power to do all of what His name means!

Dear God, I am so thankful for the sacrifice you made for us.  You loved me so much that You allowed Your son to die so He can live within me and give me eternal life.  Because of that, I have the ability to call upon His name which brings the power of all its meanings.  I’ve had to do it so often with our finances lately.  The meaning of His name is true and is who HE is and what You are.  Thank-you for all You have done, all You are doing, and all You’ll continue to do for my finances.  Please let us be good stewards with ALL You’ve given us.  I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!
