SOAP – 3/27/14

For the next 2 weeks I’ll be following Proverbs31′s daily devotionals to study. I hope it helps me to become closer to my Father!

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. ~ 2 Corinthians 2:11

O-bservations:

We know that we can allow Satan into our lives…  it’s our choice if we allow him in.  He uses many circumstances to trick us.  This section is speaking about forgiveness.  Jesus taught us to love thy enemies.  If we don’t do that then we are following the devil and not Jesus.   Confess all and give it to God and forgive!

A-pplication:

I feel like we need to be in constant forgiveness in the world we live in.  We are rushed and forget and get upset w/ ourselves.  We are driving behind someone going too slow and get angry.  Our kids don’t pick up after themselves.  Our husbands don’t thank us for the meal we prepared.  A friend posts pics of a night out with friends that you weren’t invited to.  Your boss dumps a huge mess in your lap…  etc, etc, etc.  We need to forgive every minute of everyday because that is what Jesus taught us to do.  If we don’t then we are following the devil.

P-rayer:

Dear God, help soften my heart so I can constantly forgive like Jesus did.  Help me give for the sake of giving not for “thank-you’s”.  Help me!  Help me look up and not down. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

 

SOAP – 3/26/14

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
~Psalms 145: 3-5

O-bservations:

Our Lord is great and awesome.  What He’s done is enough to spread His greatness no one or thing comes close.  His actions which are glorious, splendid, and majestic should be deeply thought and prayed about so we have reverence and awe towards Him always.

A-pplication:

Last Summer as the sun set on a lake we were camping at, the sky erupted in fire like beauty.  God made all this possible.  He created the sky, sun, atmosphere, and my eyes.  The sunset’s beauty has no purpose other than allow us such beauty to look at and enjoy.  There are so many things like this that we need to stop and enjoy and give thanks for His marvelous splendor.  No one or thing can make a sunset happen except God and we need to appreciate them more often!

P-rayer:

Dear God, you are so great!  You are in control of everything and still take time to create beauty within it for me to enjoy and understand just how great you are!  Thank-you God!  Please help me to always notice the proof our your splendor, glory, and majesty all around me.  I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

 

SOAP – 3/25/14

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness. ~Lamentations 3:22-23

O-bservations:

We’d be overwhelmed without the mercy of God.  He always has compassion for us.  He has such faith in us His compassion renew every morning.

A-pplication:

I must say that I go deeper and deeper into God’s word, I’m so THANKFUL  that a lot of these scriptures lead me to my past.  They don’t apply right now.  I’m not perfect and don’t have some magic wand, but the closer we get to him, the more we align our thinking like HIS thinking and the more we overcome!  Praise GOD!

A few years back when going through some tough times with Jay, I’d wake-up feeling defeated, sad and unloved.  I think back 6 years ago and that was one of the 1st times I DOVE into the word to get me out of my depression.  I REALLY dug in and became to not only read God’s word, but HEAR it.  My strength comes from God, my happiness comes from God, and my love comes from God.  No relationship, bank account, job, car, home, vacation, or perfect child… nothing her on Earth will satisfy us.  We need to look to God.  Once I started doing that and not relying on my husband and financial situations to bring me happiness my whole life began changing.  I think the latest chapter is Women Living Well and our Planning People FB group who all keep me accountable!  So no mater what we are going through…  little or enormous or in between, His mercy will keep “the stuff” from taking us under.  Praise God!

P-rayer:

Dear God, thank-you for your mercy and compassion you have for me each and every day.  Please help me know it and feel it each and everyday so it doesn’t go wasted. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

 

SOAP – 3/24/14

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.~ Ephesians 4:29

O-bservations:

We need to speak words that lift people up; help people; are loving and meant to put more love into people’s lives.

A-pplication:

This past winter right before starting my journey to follow the example of Women Living Well, I had gone out with a friend.  I unfortunately downloaded on her all the stuff that was aggravating me about my husband.  How he always is on his phone, never spending time with the kids or I, spends so much time with his tri buddies, spends all this $ on tri stuff and going out after workouts.  As I poured my frustrations out on her, I saw her expression change.  I normally am very positive and I think I shocked her.  I also deflated her good mood.  What was I doing?  Complaining to my friend ruined her mood, made her worry about me, made me feel yucky and put my awesome husband in a horrible light!  I was one of THOSE people…  you  know the one you never want to sit next to or see in the grocery store.  The ones that ALWAYS have problems and want you to share in their misery.  THOSE people are no fun.  Now if I was chatting with her about HONEST to goodness problems and was looking for her to help me through them and was confiding in her out of love than that would be different.  There was no love in what I was saying that night and God convicted me as I laid my head down on my pillow.  I popped back up and talked with my husband about his recent actions and He agreed and explained why the situations were happening and said he’d make sure it didn’t happen again.  BAM, thing were once again joyous and peaceful.  I shared with my friend the next day that I had done the RIGHT thing and talked to my husband!  Things were once again on the right track!

P-rayer:

Dear God, please keep me in your love and help me feel it so I can pour love out onto people not my anger, frustrations and pain.  Please forgive me when my words are negative and not leading people back to you.  Please continue to convict me so I can correct it right away.  I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

SOAP – 3/21/14

For the next 2 weeks I’ll be following Proverbs31′s daily devotionals to study. I hope it helps me to become closer to my Father! Sorry for no post yesterday. I was feeling better yesterday but ast the day went on I began to feel worse.  I feel good this morning and pray it lasts!

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. ~ John 11:35

O-bservations:

The Joy of the Lord will be ours if we abide in Jesus.  We can abide (or live in accordance with) in Jesus by keeping His commandment: to love one another as He has loved us.  If we do, then we will be full of joy.

A-pplication:

8-10 years ago, I was a gossiper and had little tolerance for people who couldn’t cit-it at work.  There was one particular guy who just didn’t get ANYTHING!  Not to mention, he walked funny.  I would complain about him to anyone who’d listen.  I would even imitate his walk to continue the poking fun and gossip.  There was other people as well.  I can say I had little joy at that time.  When I started learning to love like Jesus, I decided to make a consciuos effort to stop and prayed about it a lot.  This was when I got to start working from home.  Which NOBODY did at that time.  It allowed me distance from the people who gossiped and poked fun so I wouldn’t fall back into my old ways.   My life is full of such joy.  I’m able to end work and be a mom and wife I want to be!

P-rayer:

Dear God, thank-you for Your Son as a perfect example of love so we can know how to love like He did.  From Your word, we know we can only live in perfect joy because of His sacrifice.  Please help me to see what You see so I can love like You love.  I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

SOAP – 3/20/14

For the next 2 weeks I’ll be following Proverbs31′s daily devotionals to study.  I hope it helps me to become closer to my Father!  :-)  Sorry for no post yesterday.  I was sick and still a little sick, but feeling a lot better.  Praise God!

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Jesus wept.  John 11:35

O-bservations:

Jesus love us so much that He weeps when we do.  When Lazarus died, Mary (his sister) was so upset and truly believed in the power of Jesus’ Name.  When he saw how upset she was and the complete trust she had in His Name, he began to weep as well.  His soul became troubled (John 11:33).  When we trust in Jesus, He’ll always be there and always knows exactly what we are going through.

A-pplication:

I’m a cryer…  I admit it.  I cry pretty easily and was always a little ashamed and embarrassed that I couldn’t control it.  I feel for people and I shouldn’t be embarrassed by it.  I often cry when praying for people.  At church Jay and I will pray for people after service.  I remember this lady sobbing as she told her story of losing her husband to cancer and now losing her son to drugs.  As we prayed I bawled my eyes out.  I felt her pain and desperate need to feel’s God’s love.  I need to pray like that ever time.  I need to feel for God’s people as He feels for them.

P-rayer:

Dear God, give me your heart.  Let me feel for people like you do.  I want to pray like I did that day, EVERYDAY!  Thank-you for caring about me so deeply…  so deep I can’t even wrap my head around it.  I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

SOAP – 3/18/14

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.  ~ Ephesaian 6:12

O-bservations:

Remember God has made each and everyone of us in His image so when we are facing trouble, it’s not flesh or other people we are facing, its evil forces..  Satan.  When we face evil, we need to remember all of God’s power…  truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation and His Word.

A-pplication:

My son has ADHD which I can handle and I believe God allowed for Him for some SUPER reason!  But when it became anger and violence that was when we needed to pull out the big guns.  rather than praying for Gabe, I began praying for God to remove the spirit of Anger and Satan from him.  I began to learn truth and started pouring it into Gabe…  “I can do all things through Christ…” and “With God, all things are possible.”  Jay and I started to show less anger ourselves and gained a little bit of righteousness.  Our home e much more peaceful and our faith grew and my family all have accepted Jesus and their salvation through reading / learning the Word of God.

P-rayer:

Dear God, thank-you for helping us with this spirit of anger that was in our son and our home.  Please continue to help us so we always understand we are not fighting against people you have created but against evil spirits and Satan.  I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

SOAP – 3/17/14

Happy St. Patty’s Day!  For the next 2 weeks I’ll be following Proverbs31’s daily devotionals to study.  I hope it helps me to close to my Father!  :-)

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children,to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.  ~ Titus 2:3-5

O-bservations:

As a woman who is part of the church,  we are charged to be a living example.  We have guidelines in this passage on how we should act so we can teach the younger generation how to be examples and spread the light to others as well.

A-pplication:

I’m so thankful fo all the women in my life who can teach me how to live my life praising God and not going against Him.  My dear friend, Julie, stays at home, has 4 kids — One a toddler and three whom she homeschools and are all very active, always has time for others, never gossips, encourages me when things are tough, and knows the importance of God.  I’m a better person knowing her and she’s brought me to such a GREAT place.  I’ll never be able to thank her enough.  She helped lead me to Goodmorninggirls.org which lead me to Women Living Well.  That book changed my life and lead me to start Planning People.  Do you have someone in your life that continually leads your closer to God?  If so pray for them!

P-rayer:

Dear God, I am so thankful for Julie and the amazing example of her life.  As she lives her day, please help her to realize how lovely and wonderfully made she is and what a difference she’s making in the lives of her husband, her kids, and all the people who know her.   I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

SOAP – 3/15/14

I went off on my own this morning since Intentionally Focused is done and Proverbs31 doesn’t send out the devotional on the weekends.  Biblegate’s verse of the Day was PERFECT!  I started reading Lord, I Want to Know You by Kay Arthur.  The first chapter spoke about power in His name.  🙂

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is

“ ‘the stone you builders rejected,     which has become the cornerstone.’

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

O-bservations:

In Biblical times a person’s name often carried with it their personality or qualities they possessed.  SO a name WAS the person.  Jesus means savior and Christ in Hebrew means Messiah in Hebrew and translated from Greek means anointed.  Anointing was a practice done by shepherds.  They would pour oil on a sheep’s head to protect it from lice and other insects to keep them from sickness or death.  Christ is symbolic of blessing, protecting, and empowering.

A-pplication:

I call on the name of Jesus a LOT!  It’s been a recent habit that I’ve developed whenever things start to go astray, something wonderful happens or just because.  I can feel the power of His name.  I can feel His name saving, blessing, protecting, and empowering me.  I’ve called out a lot during January and February when I was empowered to get our finances under control.  I had to catch up on several months of the checkbook, start keeping track of our cashflow, and create a budget for February.  I needed saving and blessing because on paper things shouldn’t have worked out.  Guess what?  They did!  He has provided for us and our finances are working smoothly.  They aren’t perfect, but He has provided a path that I can see light shining through.  I’m so thankful and don’t want anything bad to happen so now I call on His name for protecting the blessing He has given us.  I can’t control all the stuff that life throws at us, but He can.  The name of Jesus Christ has power to do all of what His name means!

P-rayer:

Dear God, I am so thankful for the sacrifice you made for us.  You loved me so much that You allowed Your son to die so He can live within me and give me eternal life.  Because of that, I have the ability to call upon His name which brings the power of all its meanings.  I’ve had to do it so often with our finances lately.  The meaning of His name is true and is who HE is and what You are.  Thank-you for all You have done, all You are doing, and all You’ll continue to do for my finances.  Please let us be good stewards with ALL You’ve given us.  I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

Intentionally Focused – 3/14/14 = LAST DAY

Day 56 of the GoodMorningGirls.org bible study called, Intentionally Focused.  Can you believe it’s the last day???  It has been so awesome and I’ve loved sharing with everyone.  I can’t wait to start… Why Easter Matters in a couple of weeks.  In the meantime, I’ll be doing my soaps on the Proverbs31.org devotionals.   :-)

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.~ 2 Cor. 7:1

O-bservations:

God has promised to walk with us and receive us as sons and daughters, if we live our lives separate than the unbelievers.  The fear of losing our relationship with God should be enough to not sin.   The sin of the world is on us so we must cleanse ourselves by doing what God expects from us.  There is a difference between receiving salvation and living as a daughter of the Father!

A-pplication:

When Jay and I began going to church 10 years ago, we had many unbelieving friends.  We would often spend Saturday night at a friend’s house drinking to excess and then wasting away our Sunday trying to feel better.  We lived on credit cards.  We would yell at each other or the kids when something angered us.  We had a diet that was whatever was quick and easy and tasted good.  We had accepted Jesus as our Savior and gained our salvation but were doing NOTHING to live like God’s son and daughter.  I think there were a few critical tests God allowed us to go through that helped us to gain that healthy fear of losing God, our Father.

  • My 3 miscarriages
  • Gabe’s health issues and ADHD
  • Jason’s cancer
  • Our near bankruptcy

In all these situations, we exhausted all options that we could do ourselves so the only place left to turn was Him.

I had gotten pregnant and given birth to Abby with no complications so when we decided to have another child we didn’t think there would be any issues.  Boy was I wrong…  I had 3 miscarriages and each one of them ripped my heart out worse than the last.  The 3rd one happened the day after I heard the babies heartbeat.   I was an emotional mess, but up until that point I had been going to Dr, trying different things and not asking for God’s help.  After the 3rd miscarriage I prayed and said that if He allowed be to have another baby, I’d consider the baby to be a message from Him.  When I found out the baby was a boy we decided to name him Gabriel since he was a messenger from God.   All through the pregnancy I had a sinful doubt that I’d miscarry again and never became attached.  After Gabe was born he had all kinds of breathing issues which we discovered to be acid reflux.  Then his behavior issues started which we discovered to be ADHD.  For the first 6 years of his life, Gabe was in and out of doctor’s offices.  Through all that time, energy and prayers I devoted to my son, I gained a love so deep that I never would have had if he had been perfectly fine.  (I’m ashamed to say that, but it’s the truth.)

We just get Gabe’s stuff figured out and we discover Jay had cancer.  I was totally convinced God HAD it covered, and He did because Jay is cancer free!  My  faith was never shaken with Jay’s health…  but him out of work for several months and not making any $ was a different story.  Like I had mentioned, we had previously been living on credit cards and had debit that would make most people eyeballs pop out of their heads so I was afraid.  The debt was crippling and we almost had tossed around the B word…  bankruptcy, but there had to be another way.  Being in debt is one sin, but not paying it back is FAR worse.  We decided to borrow $ against my 401K to get us through.   We are probably 75% better in the finances stuff than we were 5 years ago, praise God!  But we still have more work to do, and we are willing to do it!

Cancer had also woke Jay and I up to our health.  We were both overweight and didn’t exercise.  We started working out and eating better and now we could NEVER go back.  It’s a part of us and always will be.  Through our healthy eating and cutting out the garbage, our son is off his ADHD medication, praise God!  Isn’t it so cool that God could use Gabe’s ADHD to create a love so strong and then cure it with a cancer.  ONLY  GOD!

Through all these trials, we stopped hanging out with our old friends and started hanging out with our new friends at Saturday night service.  We grew deeper in our faith and started to cleanse ourselves.   I still care for our old friends and see them once in a while but I no longer conform to their lives because I have decided to be separate.  I want to call God my Father and I want Him to call me His daughter!

P-rayer:

Dear God, please help me continue to cleanse myself and know what You want me to do.  I want to be Your daughter…  not the one that sneaks out of the house and gives you grey hair…  the one who You are proud of and give a lot of responsibility to!   I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!
