SOAP – 3/27/14

For the next 2 weeks I’ll be following Proverbs31′s daily devotionals to study. I hope it helps me to become closer to my Father!

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. ~ 2 Corinthians 2:11

O-bservations:

We know that we can allow Satan into our lives…  it’s our choice if we allow him in.  He uses many circumstances to trick us.  This section is speaking about forgiveness.  Jesus taught us to love thy enemies.  If we don’t do that then we are following the devil and not Jesus.   Confess all and give it to God and forgive!

A-pplication:

I feel like we need to be in constant forgiveness in the world we live in.  We are rushed and forget and get upset w/ ourselves.  We are driving behind someone going too slow and get angry.  Our kids don’t pick up after themselves.  Our husbands don’t thank us for the meal we prepared.  A friend posts pics of a night out with friends that you weren’t invited to.  Your boss dumps a huge mess in your lap…  etc, etc, etc.  We need to forgive every minute of everyday because that is what Jesus taught us to do.  If we don’t then we are following the devil.

P-rayer:

Dear God, help soften my heart so I can constantly forgive like Jesus did.  Help me give for the sake of giving not for “thank-you’s”.  Help me!  Help me look up and not down. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

 

SOAP – 3/26/14

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
~Psalms 145: 3-5

O-bservations:

Our Lord is great and awesome.  What He’s done is enough to spread His greatness no one or thing comes close.  His actions which are glorious, splendid, and majestic should be deeply thought and prayed about so we have reverence and awe towards Him always.

A-pplication:

Last Summer as the sun set on a lake we were camping at, the sky erupted in fire like beauty.  God made all this possible.  He created the sky, sun, atmosphere, and my eyes.  The sunset’s beauty has no purpose other than allow us such beauty to look at and enjoy.  There are so many things like this that we need to stop and enjoy and give thanks for His marvelous splendor.  No one or thing can make a sunset happen except God and we need to appreciate them more often!

P-rayer:

Dear God, you are so great!  You are in control of everything and still take time to create beauty within it for me to enjoy and understand just how great you are!  Thank-you God!  Please help me to always notice the proof our your splendor, glory, and majesty all around me.  I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

 

SOAP – 3/25/14

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness. ~Lamentations 3:22-23

O-bservations:

We’d be overwhelmed without the mercy of God.  He always has compassion for us.  He has such faith in us His compassion renew every morning.

A-pplication:

I must say that I go deeper and deeper into God’s word, I’m so THANKFUL  that a lot of these scriptures lead me to my past.  They don’t apply right now.  I’m not perfect and don’t have some magic wand, but the closer we get to him, the more we align our thinking like HIS thinking and the more we overcome!  Praise GOD!

A few years back when going through some tough times with Jay, I’d wake-up feeling defeated, sad and unloved.  I think back 6 years ago and that was one of the 1st times I DOVE into the word to get me out of my depression.  I REALLY dug in and became to not only read God’s word, but HEAR it.  My strength comes from God, my happiness comes from God, and my love comes from God.  No relationship, bank account, job, car, home, vacation, or perfect child… nothing her on Earth will satisfy us.  We need to look to God.  Once I started doing that and not relying on my husband and financial situations to bring me happiness my whole life began changing.  I think the latest chapter is Women Living Well and our Planning People FB group who all keep me accountable!  So no mater what we are going through…  little or enormous or in between, His mercy will keep “the stuff” from taking us under.  Praise God!

P-rayer:

Dear God, thank-you for your mercy and compassion you have for me each and every day.  Please help me know it and feel it each and everyday so it doesn’t go wasted. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.~ Ephesians 4:29

O-bservations:

We need to speak words that lift people up; help people; are loving and meant to put more love into people’s lives.

A-pplication:

This past winter right before starting my journey to follow the example of Women Living Well, I had gone out with a friend.  I unfortunately downloaded on her all the stuff that was aggravating me about my husband.  How he always is on his phone, never spending time with the kids or I, spends so much time with his tri buddies, spends all this $ on tri stuff and going out after workouts.  As I poured my frustrations out on her, I saw her expression change.  I normally am very positive and I think I shocked her.  I also deflated her good mood.  What was I doing?  Complaining to my friend ruined her mood, made her worry about me, made me feel yucky and put my awesome husband in a horrible light!  I was one of THOSE people…  you  know the one you never want to sit next to or see in the grocery store.  The ones that ALWAYS have problems and want you to share in their misery.  THOSE people are no fun.  Now if I was chatting with her about HONEST to goodness problems and was looking for her to help me through them and was confiding in her out of love than that would be different.  There was no love in what I was saying that night and God convicted me as I laid my head down on my pillow.  I popped back up and talked with my husband about his recent actions and He agreed and explained why the situations were happening and said he’d make sure it didn’t happen again.  BAM, thing were once again joyous and peaceful.  I shared with my friend the next day that I had done the RIGHT thing and talked to my husband!  Things were once again on the right track!

P-rayer:

Dear God, please keep me in your love and help me feel it so I can pour love out onto people not my anger, frustrations and pain.  Please forgive me when my words are negative and not leading people back to you.  Please continue to convict me so I can correct it right away.  I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

SOAP – 3/20/14

For the next 2 weeks I’ll be following Proverbs31′s daily devotionals to study.  I hope it helps me to become closer to my Father!  :-)  Sorry for no post yesterday.  I was sick and still a little sick, but feeling a lot better.  Praise God!

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Jesus wept.  John 11:35

O-bservations:

Jesus love us so much that He weeps when we do.  When Lazarus died, Mary (his sister) was so upset and truly believed in the power of Jesus’ Name.  When he saw how upset she was and the complete trust she had in His Name, he began to weep as well.  His soul became troubled (John 11:33).  When we trust in Jesus, He’ll always be there and always knows exactly what we are going through.

A-pplication:

I’m a cryer…  I admit it.  I cry pretty easily and was always a little ashamed and embarrassed that I couldn’t control it.  I feel for people and I shouldn’t be embarrassed by it.  I often cry when praying for people.  At church Jay and I will pray for people after service.  I remember this lady sobbing as she told her story of losing her husband to cancer and now losing her son to drugs.  As we prayed I bawled my eyes out.  I felt her pain and desperate need to feel’s God’s love.  I need to pray like that ever time.  I need to feel for God’s people as He feels for them.

P-rayer:

Dear God, give me your heart.  Let me feel for people like you do.  I want to pray like I did that day, EVERYDAY!  Thank-you for caring about me so deeply…  so deep I can’t even wrap my head around it.  I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

SOAP – 3/15/14

I went off on my own this morning since Intentionally Focused is done and Proverbs31 doesn’t send out the devotional on the weekends.  Biblegate’s verse of the Day was PERFECT!  I started reading Lord, I Want to Know You by Kay Arthur.  The first chapter spoke about power in His name.  🙂

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is

“ ‘the stone you builders rejected,     which has become the cornerstone.’

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

.~ 2 Cor. 7:1

O-bservations:

In Biblical times a person’s name often carried with it their personality or qualities they possessed.  SO a name WAS the person.  Jesus means savior and Christ in Hebrew means Messiah in Hebrew and translated from Greek means anointed.  Anointing was a practice done by shepherds.  They would pour oil on a sheep’s head to protect it from lice and other insects to keep them from sickness or death.  Christ is symbolic of blessing, protecting, and empowering.

A-pplication:

I call on the name of Jesus a LOT!  It’s been a recent habit that I’ve developed whenever things start to go astray, something wonderful happens or just because.  I can feel the power of His name.  I can feel His name saving, blessing, protecting, and empowering me.  I’ve called out a lot during January and February when I was empowered to get our finances under control.  I had to catch up on several months of the checkbook, start keeping track of our cashflow, and create a budget for February.  I needed saving and blessing because on paper things shouldn’t have worked out.  Guess what?  They did!  He has provided for us and our finances are working smoothly.  They aren’t perfect, but He has provided a path that I can see light shining through.  I’m so thankful and don’t want anything bad to happen so now I call on His name for protecting the blessing He has given us.  I can’t control all the stuff that life throws at us, but He can.  The name of Jesus Christ has power to do all of what His name means!

P-rayer:

Dear God, I am so thankful for the sacrifice you made for us.  You loved me so much that You allowed Your son to die so He can live within me and give me eternal life.  Because of that, I have the ability to call upon His name which brings the power of all its meanings.  I’ve had to do it so often with our finances lately.  The meaning of His name is true and is who HE is and what You are.  Thank-you for all You have done, all You are doing, and all You’ll continue to do for my finances.  Please let us be good stewards with ALL You’ve given us.  I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!

Intentionally Focused – 3/13/14

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. ~ Gen 3:6

O-bservations:

Women usually have a HUGE say on what our husbands and/or kids eat.  We need to make sure that JUST because it’s tasty, sweet, and can control our cravings for a few minutes, it’s not worth leading you and your family down a road of unhealthy eating.

A-pplication:

Humpty Dumpty BBQ potato chips are an absolute weakness for me and Jay.  Salt and Vinegar is what does it for the kids.  I LOVE those things!  I would often by a big bag or each and eat them on Pizza or Italian Nights.  We would not have just 1 serving, oh NO!  We would eat both bags completely.  We are healthy eaters and a bag of chips once in a while is OK, right?  I think you need to look at yourself to determine that.  Can you eat just 1 serving? (NOPE!)  Do you feel OK afterwards, physically?  (NOPE)  Do you feel OK afterwards, mentally?  (NOPE)  I got my answer…  I can’t do potato chips nor can I bring them into my home and let my family go down the same path.  Now gatherings with other people chips are Ok for me because I DO only eat 1 serving so it’s not like I’ll NEVER eat them again just on rare special occasions where I didn’t buy them and I know it won’t lead me or my family into guilt.

P-rayer:

Dear God, please let me tap into your strength so I do not buy the items that cause me and my family to go off of our nutrition plan.  I want to treat this temple and my family’s temples with the respect they deserve since you made them perfectly for a specific purpose.  I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!

Intentionally Focused – 2/28/14

S-cripture:

and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. ~ 2 Timothy 3:15-17

O-bservations:

The earlier we know God’s Word the earlier we can know about our salvation through Jesus and the earlier the Holy Spirit will equip us with everything we need to accomplish His good works.

A-pplication:

I see this in my kids.  I went to church as a little girl and stopped in middle school.  My HS years and college years were not my most shining moments.  I was nice, a great student and helpful, but my personal life was so far away from God it wasn’t even funny.  Start a family, graduating college, and moving  into a remodeled shack (yes as shack….  I have pictures to prove it.)  was not the fairy tale beginnings I had in mind.  It was 6 HARD years like that until Channon invited us to LifeChurch (aka Portland Faith Center) and Abby kept asking to learn more about where Great Grammie and Great Grampa were.  From then on, he has been separating my sin from me and making our lives work for His glory, AMEN!  But what if I had remained close to Him in HS and College?  What if I hadn’t separated myself from His love, mercy, strength, knowledge, correction, etc…  How much more would I be able to do for Him?  So how do I keep my kids focused on Him through this?  I think my HS and college years are a testimony they need to hear.  Ultimately it’s their decision, but I will pray, talk, and try to be the best example I know how to be in hopes they never separate from Him.

 

P-rayer:

Dear God, help me keep my kids close to You.  I struggle with this and it seems like it doesn’t matter to my family.  Please help me find something that will work.  I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!

Intentionally Focused – 2/27/14

S-cripture:

If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. ~ Psalms 18: 5-6

O-bservations:

Wow!  I don’t think I remember ever reading this because Jesus is quite harsh and there is no misinterpreting this verse.  We need to receive our kids in His name and help lead them to righteousness because the alternative is not good! (obviously…)

A-pplication:

I’m trying to be a good example to my kids and I don’t think I’m leading them to sin, but there are times I feel I’m not leading them to righteousness either.  As Wed night started winding down, I realized we haven’t done our family time in over a week.  I was sad.  I asked Gabe if he missed it and he said he could take it or leave it.  How do I get the kids “into” family time with God?  How do I get them to WANT to read their Bibles?  I don’t think I’m going at it correctly or someone in the fam would have mentioned it before now…  gosh I would have thought of it before now!

P-rayer:

Dear God, help me lead my children to you and not cause them to stumble.  I don’t want them to be separated nor do I want to be separated from You.  Give me a vision of something that’ll interest them so they will WANT to do this.  I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!

Intentionally Focused – 2/26/14

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Children are a heritage from the Lord,
    offspring a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
    are children born in one’s youth.
Blessed is the man
    whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
    when they contend with their opponents in court. ~ Psalms 127: 3-5

O-bservations:

A warrior is a person experienced in war.  They accomplish this with use of weapons.  So arrows would be used to accomplish a warrior’s purpose.  We as Christians have a purpose to spread the Good News.  As parents we are responsible to raise our children to do the same.  So…  If we have kids we are able to bring more people to Christ.

A-pplication:

How does this work for those without kids or who have had trouble.  I think we can “claim” kids we are helping to nurture.  Do you have nieces or nephews you talk about God with?  Are you helping in the Children’s/Youth ministries at church.  So when the kids have friends over I  make sure I explain what we believe and why…  OF COURSE in a very COOL way…  Abby had a friend over during winter break and she was talking with her and I about something at school that was hard.  I asked, “Did you pray about it?  God provides strength and understanding to those who ask.”  She replied “Yes, Mom…”  Even though it was a slightly exasperated response, she had prayed and her friend knew that in Abby’s house when there is anything tough, they pray and God gets them through.  I think this living by example is so important and a way to plant seeds in so many people without them being turned-off. 

P-rayer:

Dear God, help me fill my quiver.  Let me see the kids around me who I have been called to help lead to you. I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!
