Intentionally Focused – 3/13/14

Day 55 of the GoodMorningGirls.org bible study called, Intentionally Focused.  I hope it helps me look up to Him more.   :-)

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. ~ Gen 3:6

O-bservations:

Women usually have a HUGE say on what our husbands and/or kids eat.  We need to make sure that JUST because it’s tasty, sweet, and can control our cravings for a few minutes, it’s not worth leading you and your family down a road of unhealthy eating.

A-pplication:

Humpty Dumpty BBQ potato chips are an absolute weakness for me and Jay.  Salt and Vinegar is what does it for the kids.  I LOVE those things!  I would often by a big bag or each and eat them on Pizza or Italian Nights.  We would not have just 1 serving, oh NO!  We would eat both bags completely.  We are healthy eaters and a bag of chips once in a while is OK, right?  I think you need to look at yourself to determine that.  Can you eat just 1 serving? (NOPE!)  Do you feel OK afterwards, physically?  (NOPE)  Do you feel OK afterwards, mentally?  (NOPE)  I got my answer…  I can’t do potato chips nor can I bring them into my home and let my family go down the same path.  Now gatherings with other people chips are Ok for me because I DO only eat 1 serving so it’s not like I’ll NEVER eat them again just on rare special occasions where I didn’t buy them and I know it won’t lead me or my family into guilt.

P-rayer:

Dear God, please let me tap into your strength so I do not buy the items that cause me and my family to go off of our nutrition plan.  I want to treat this temple and my family’s temples with the respect they deserve since you made them perfectly for a specific purpose.  I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!

Intentionally Focused – 3/12/14

Day 52 of the GoodMorningGirls.org bible study called, Intentionally Focused. I have been doing my SOAP’s but not posting due to CRAZY schedule.  I hope you understand.   :-)

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. ~ Philippians 3:19-21

O-bservations:

We can’t set our minds on Earthly things like food or people’s opinions of us.  Our aim needs to be Heaven and achieving our purpose He’s given us here on Earth.  When we arrive in heaven we’ll be full on Jesus and look perfect because He paid the price for that by dying on the cross.  We need to focus on maintaining the temple God gave us so we are not an enemy of the cross.

A-pplication:

I’ve been an enemy of the cross with eating 2 ways…  overeating and eating what every tasted good in that moment even if it meant long-term destruction of my temple and I’ve also been exercise/nutrition crazy where that was my God and it came before my duties of being a Godly wife and mother.  We need to constantly be in check that maintaining the temple is a priority but not above God.  We also need to be careful of what we allow ourselves to partake in…  Can you skip a work-out to spend time with you family when needed but get right back at it the next day?  Some can and some can’t.  Can you eat unhealthy things 1 day but give it up and eat clean the rest of the week?  I can’t have 1/2 cup of ice cream or 10 potato chips so going vegan has helped me tremendously since I puts a focus on certain foods that typically are very healthy.  I “can” eat chips and Oreos and other bad stuff, but it’s a MUCH smaller set and are eliminated by giving up processed foods with chemicals and dyes.  I truly believe God gave us the cancer scare to remove chemicals, dyes and artificial sweeteners from our diet.  We don’t smoke in here or there and I don’t eat cancer causing ingredients in here or there either.  Not only do we feel GREAT but our son is off his ADHD medication.   God gave us our temple and our families temples to look after.  Let’s make sure we are taking care of ALL of them so that we may live a long life and fulfill our purpose!

P-rayer:

Dear God, help me to maintain a balance with nutrition/working out and my wifely and family duties.  I want to be the Christian you’ve called me to be and hope that I’m glorifying you as I go through this journey!  I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!

Vegan Detox Update after 1 week….

Jay and I feel GREAT…  My detox plan has allowed us to maintain our workouts without any issues.  Jay doesn’t workout like us…  He’s a crazy man and it’s not uncommon for him to burn 1000’s of calories when he swims, bikes, and runs.  So for him to maintain this energy level is key.  We bumped up our carbs and proteins on Tuesday when we noticed things were not quite enough.  We did this by switching from Uber bars to Odwalla bars.  The banana nut one is my favorite!.  We’ve also ditched the  lemon, ginger, and cayenne water.  We just couldn’t do it.  He never tried it and I did a total of 4 cups and couldn’t think of drinking it again.  Jay’s lost 7 of the 10 lbs he wanted to lose in the first week and I’ve lost 3.  A lot of the weight loss is from the toxins being removed and reduced inflammation in our digestive system so I’m not sure we will get the same results this week and I’m not sure we will maintain all of the weight loss when we start adding some things back into our diet.  But feeling great is REALLY our main goal and we have achieved that in just one week!

Detox2-28-14

My whole family LOVED the millet stuffed peppers.  I bought organic salsa and mixed it in with the millet and black beans so it was a little easier.  We also LOVED the Thai Cashew Quinoa dish but would use a little less red onion.  The Mediterranean Veggie Stew stuffed in gluten-free whole wheat pita were our favorite thought.  SUPER yummy!

These meal plans are for me, but Jay will be eating a leafy salad for lunch and shake mid afternoon.  Our snacks will be Odwalla bar and hummus and veggies.  He has also been eating 2-3 servings of nuts.  if we are hungry at night we’ve been having stove popped popcorn with coconut oil.

Detox3-7-14

Intentionally Focused – 3/6/14

Day 46 of the GoodMorningGirls.org bible study called, Intentionally Focused. I pray it helps me look up to Him more!   :-)

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. ~ Romans 12:13

O-bservations:

We need to be giving and answer the needs of our fellow-man by opening our hearts, our stuff, and our homes.

A-pplication:

Prior to this verse, it states: “Let Love be without hypocrisy”.  Have any of us helped people and then gossiped about why they are in that position or judged them?  I have.  When we first started our LifeGroup we had a rough few years, then people started coming like we had prayed about…  But with people come personalities.  Jay and I would have a weekly venting after everyone left.  Was I being hospitable NO I was being a hypocrite!   We started feeling unfruitful in our LifeGroup and this is why.  We took a session off and regrouped.  I’m not saying everything is perfect…  It never is when people and emotions are involved, but I feel like we are dealing with everyone with love.  The reward far out ways any of the pain.  I have gained a family I can count on.

P-rayer:

Dear God, help me to love more perfectly today…  more like You and be welcoming to those who need to see You clearer.  Be with all the women in this group as we go through the marriage week and I pray their relationships and knowledge grow deeper through You.  I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!

Intentionally Focused – 3/4/14

Day 44 of the GoodMorningGirls.org bible study called, Intentionally Focused. I pray it helps me look up to Him more!  I haven’t posted in a couple of days because I wasn’t comfortable sharing with the world.  I hope that’s OK.  🙂

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

She watches over the ways of her household ~ Proverbs 31:27

O-bservations:

We have been given a ministry right in our homes with our kids and our husbands.  Are we “watching” over them.  When our husband is leading us in the wrong direction, have we figured out how to provide loving counsel without a fight?  When our kids start to rebel are we showing them loving discipline?

A-pplication:

As my kids get older they are starting to push me on how far I’ll let them go.  I often try to say, “I’m just doing what God wants me to do,” and explain to them the negative consequences of their actions.  With my daughter it’s often what she puts on social media or time spent texting.  With my son it’s judgemental thoughts or blaming others for his short-comings, especially in sports.  With my husband, I often have to “remind’ him of the big picture.  Our kids need a strong Christian father who would give up things to do for his family and one that makes financial decisions that will help us get out of debt not put us in it.  One whose words are Love not hate, anger, judgemental or jealous.  This is my ministry that I’ve been given!

P-rayer:

Dear God, help me to see my ministry and how to minister to my kids and husband.  Please open my heart so I may see them as you do and convey your will and not my own.  I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!

Intentionally Focused – 3/1/14

Day 40 of the GoodMorningGirls.org bible study called, Intentionally Focused. I pray it helps me look up to Him more!

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,     so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west,     so far has he removed our transgressions from us.   As a father has compassion on his children,     so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; ~ Psalm 103: 11-13

O-bservations:

this verse gives us a picture of how God is but it references a parent/child relationship so we learn about that as well.  Do your children try not to sin because of a healthy fear of you?  When they do sin, is your discipline loving?  Do you hold onto their sin or do you remove it from your opinion of your child?  Are you sad for them when they do stumble?

A-pplication:

I had to learn this the hard way with my son, Gabe.  He was constantly not doing what was asked of him.  I would get so frustrated, lash out and then he’d get completely deflated.  Through a lot of prayer, research, and conversations.  I figured out how to parent my child.  He needed 1 item to do and needed a reminder as a freebie.  He also needed a TON of praise for when he did it on his own.  Before we figured this out, I’d constantly say: “You never do this right.” or ” You haven’t remembered all week, why would today be any different?”  That was wrong and I wasn’t dealing with this appropriately.  I need to separate yesterdays sins from today as far as the east is from the west!

P-rayer:

Dear God, help me to have Your patience, love, compassion, and correction with my kids so I can see them as you do.  I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!

Intentionally Focused – 2/28/14

Day 40 of the GoodMorningGirls.org bible study called, Intentionally Focused. I pray it helps me look up to Him more!

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. ~ 2 Timothy 3:15-17

O-bservations:

The earlier we know God’s Word the earlier we can know about our salvation through Jesus and the earlier the Holy Spirit will equip us with everything we need to accomplish His good works.

A-pplication:

I see this in my kids.  I went to church as a little girl and stopped in middle school.  My HS years and college years were not my most shining moments.  I was nice, a great student and helpful, but my personal life was so far away from God it wasn’t even funny.  Start a family, graduating college, and moving  into a remodeled shack (yes as shack….  I have pictures to prove it.)  was not the fairy tale beginnings I had in mind.  It was 6 HARD years like that until Channon invited us to LifeChurch (aka Portland Faith Center) and Abby kept asking to learn more about where Great Grammie and Great Grampa were.  From then on, he has been separating my sin from me and making our lives work for His glory, AMEN!  But what if I had remained close to Him in HS and College?  What if I hadn’t separated myself from His love, mercy, strength, knowledge, correction, etc…  How much more would I be able to do for Him?  So how do I keep my kids focused on Him through this?  I think my HS and college years are a testimony they need to hear.  Ultimately it’s their decision, but I will pray, talk, and try to be the best example I know how to be in hopes they never separate from Him.

P-rayer:

Dear God, help me keep my kids close to You.  I struggle with this and it seems like it doesn’t matter to my family.  Please help me find something that will work.  I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!

Vegan Detox – 2/28/14 – 3/6/14

Jay and I have been feeling a little yucky lately and there are a few pounds he wants to drop before his big triathlon training camp in April.  So I found a detox plan and gathered some recipes that follow the rules but also allow us to maintain nutrition so we can both still work out.

Detox2-28-14

These meal plans are for me, but Jay will be eating a leafy salad for lunch and shake mid afternoon.  Our snacks will be Lara Uber bar and humus and veggies.  We need to drink 4 cups of the lemon, ginger, and cayenne water throughout the day.

Detox3-7-14

Foods NOT to eat:

  • Dairy and eggs
  • meat
  • processed sugar
  • Non-GMO soy
  • coffee, soda, and alcohol
  • peanuts
  • creamed vegetables.

Foods To to eat:

  • Leafy vegetables and cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli, Cauliflower, turnips and parsnips)
  • berries
  • apple cider vinegar
  • lemon water
  • herbal tea
  • coconut milk
  • coconut oil
  • plant-based non-GMO protein powder with no processed sugar or artificial sweeteners.  (We are trying MGM but have used Vega One and really like it, but it’s pricey)

Intentionally Focused – 2/27/14

Day 39 of the GoodMorningGirls.org bible study called, Intentionally Focused. I pray it helps me look up to Him more!

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. ~ Psalms 18: 5-6

O-bservations:

Wow!  I don’t think I remember ever reading this because Jesus is quite harsh and there is no misinterpreting this verse.  We need to receive our kids in His name and help lead them to righteousness because the alternative is not good! (obviously…)

A-pplication:

I’m trying to be a good example to my kids and I don’t think I’m leading them to sin, but there are times I feel I’m not leading them to righteousness either.  As Wed night started winding down, I realized we haven’t done our family time in over a week.  I was sad.  I asked Gabe if he missed it and he said he could take it or leave it.  How do I get the kids “into” family time with God?  How do I get them to WANT to read their Bibles?  I don’t think I’m going at it correctly or someone in the fam would have mentioned it before now…  gosh I would have thought of it before now!

P-rayer:

Dear God, help me lead my children to you and not cause them to stumble.  I don’t want them to be separated nor do I want to be separated from You.  Give me a vision of something that’ll interest them so they will WANT to do this.  I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!

Intentionally Focused – 2/26/14

Day 38 of the GoodMorningGirls.org bible study called, Intentionally Focused. I pray it helps me look up to Him more!

Today’s SOAP:

S-cripture:

Children are a heritage from the Lord,
    offspring a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their opponents in court. ~ Psalms 127: 3-5

O-bservations:

A warrior is a person experienced in war.  They accomplish this with use of weapons.  So arrows would be used to accomplish a warrior’s purpose.  We as Christians have a purpose to spread the Good News.  As parents we are responsible to raise our children to do the same.  So…  If we have kids we are able to bring more people to Christ.

A-pplication:

How does this work for those without kids or who have had trouble.  I think we can “claim” kids we are helping to nurture.  Do you have nieces or nephews you talk about God with?  Are you helping in the Children’s/Youth ministries at church.  So when the kids have friends over I  make sure I explain what we believe and why…  OF COURSE in a very COOL way…  Abby had a friend over during winter break and she was talking with her and I about something at school that was hard.  I asked, “Did you pray about it?  God provides strength and understanding to those who ask.”  She replied “Yes, Mom…”  Even though it was a slightly exasperated response, she had prayed and her friend knew that in Abby’s house when there is anything tough, they pray and God gets them through.  I think this living by example is so important and a way to plant seeds in so many people without them being turned-off.

P-rayer:

Dear God, help me fill my quiver.  Let me see the kids around me who I have been called to help lead to you. I pray this in Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!
